San Antonio’s First Pan-Asia Supermarket Faces Construction Delays Ahead of 2027 Opening

The first Pan-Asia Supermarket in San Antonio is facing delays in the construction work, which is increasing the uncertainty about when its much-anticipated 60,000-square-foot grocery store will open. While the company hopes to have the store ready for customers by summer of 2027, an official opening date has still not been set.

The supermarket now being developed is located at 3713 Colony Drive in the Colonies North Shopping Center, about one mile from the headquarters of USAA. Although construction started in the summer, the pace of work has been slower than anticipated.

As shown in a filing with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation, the project includes a $1.7 million renovation aimed at combining three present retail spaces into one large supermarket, and the construction is currently planned to go on until December 18, 2026.

Pan-Asia Supermarket was founded in Omaha, Nebraska, in 2010 and focuses on Asian groceries, such as fresh fruits and vegetables, seafood, meats, and a range of international specialty products.

At the San Antonio site there will be a food court, a bakery, sushi and a boba tea shop, so that customers have a variety of dining choices as well as the opportunity to carry out traditional grocery shopping.

The company’s spokesperson had earlier admitted that there had been delays in the construction and stated that the retailer is aiming to open before summer 2027. The company gave as the main reasons for entering the market San Antonio’s diverse population and the increasing demand for international food products.

Pan-Asia’s move into San Antonio is once again an investment in the city’s specialty grocery market, there being currently seven of its stores in the United States and two more under development.
