The company is planning to expand its presence in Texas by opening several new grocery stores in North Texas and in the Houston area, the total investment being more than $4 million.
Filing with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation reveals that new sites are planned for Plano, Fort Worth, Bellaire, Wylie and Mansfield, with construction to take place from the end of 2026 through 2027.
Trader Joe’s is planning to open a 12,526-square-foot store at 5900 Preston Road in the Promontory on Preston development. Interior refurbishments are due to start on December 1 and will be completed by June 2027; the store will be the company’s second one in Plano.
A store of approximately 12,500 square feet is also planned for 9052 North City Drive in Fort Worth, the development being supported by an estimated investment of $900,000. Trader Joe’s has confirmed its intentions to open stores in both Plano and Fort Worth, but no opening dates have yet been given.
The company also plans to open a store at 5130 Bellaire Boulevard in Bellaire, where it will take over the site of a previous Randall’s store, and at 2710 E. Farm to Market 544 in Wylie, where a new store will be constructed from the ground up; in Mansfield there will be a store at 3020 Matlock Road with renovations due to finish in March 2027.
The new expansion is taking place at a time when there is more grocery store development all over North Texas. H-E-B, Kroger, Sprouts Farmers Market, Walmart and Whole Foods are some of the big retailers who are looking at opening new stores in the Dallas-Fort Worth area.
Trader Joe’s is still assessing hundreds of neighbourhoods across the country as it aims to increase the number of new stores it opens every year.
