Delightful Development Co., which is based in Fort Worth, has agreed to buy and restore Lammes Candies, the historic Austin confectionery brand that announced it was closing earlier this year after having been in business for 141 years.
Delightful Development, which was set up by Craig Cavileer and Kayla Wilkie-Kinne, intends to keep Lammes’ traditional recipes and Texas heritage while at the same time launching new products and updating the brand to appeal to a new generation of customers. The Lammes family will still be taking part in the acquisition plan.
Lammes Candies is famous for its Texas Chewie Pecan Pralines, Longhorns and Sherbet Mints; its factory on Airport Boulevard in Austin, which opened in 1956, was also noted for the distinctive candy cane pole and neon lamb sign.
The comeback will start on September 29 with holiday pre-orders for a number of popular products; a limited holiday edition will include Sherbet Mints, Longhorns and pralines in their traditional packaging, as well as Christmas Sherbet Mints being available at a number of Cracker Barrel locations across the country.
Delightful Development is working with McGarrah Jessee, a branding agency based in Austin, to redesign the packaging, update Lammes’ website and create a new social media strategy. The official relaunch is scheduled for spring 2027.
Cavileer and Wilkie-Kinne had previously played key roles in the redevelopment of the Fort Worth Stockyards, including work on projects such as Hotel Drover and Mule Alley; their new venture seeks to put that experience to use in the preservation and modernisation of another long-established Texas brand.
