CHOMEX, which is also called Container Home X, is placing greater emphasis on portable offices and mobile workspaces as a result of the rising commercial demand in Texas, Arizona, Colorado, Nevada, and California.
At the beginning the U.S.-based company which made prefabricated modular buildings focused mainly on residential projects; but since businesses have been asking for more things, CHOMEX has decided to extend its operations further into commercial applications, covering alternatives to conventional office trailers and shipping container offices.
Shia Halpern, the CEO, stated that the change was due to customers having already used CHOMEX buildings for business purposes rather than as a result of a deliberate decision to move away from residential construction. The company added that its residential operations will still form a core element of the business while extra resources are allocated to the commercial market.
CHOMEX buildings are transported in a compact form and then expanded at the site to create larger interior spaces. Commercial customers have the option of customising the buildings to incorporate private offices, open work areas, reception areas, meeting rooms, kitchens, bathrooms, and storage.
The company is also aiming at businesses that require more space. Several modular buildings can be joined together, for example a two-unit office arrangement covering about 42 feet by 39 feet and comprising six separate offices, a reception area, a kitchen and two bathrooms.
The potential customers are construction companies, remote worksites, corporate satellite offices, administrative operations, and businesses that need extra workspace without having to carry out conventional ground-up construction.
Commercial deployments have already been carried out in several states, such as Texas, and CHOMEX intends to keep on developing its portable office business while at the same time keeping its existing residential product line.
