Google, AST SpaceMobile, Cancoil USA Invest In Texas

Texas is experiencing a surge of major investments across multiple industries, with new projects announced by Google, AST SpaceMobile, and Cancoil USA, alongside the introduction of a new film-friendly certification for the City of Big Spring, according to Business Facilities.

In West Texas, satellite communications company AST SpaceMobile is expanding with two new manufacturing sites, one in Texas and one in Florida. The Midland-based firm, which employs more than 1,800 people, already operates five Texas facilities, including a manufacturing hub where its next-generation BlueBird satellites are built from raw materials to finished spacecraft. CEO Abel Avellan stated that the expansion will enable the company to increase production capacity, strengthen its supply chains, and continue producing high-tech satellite hardware domestically. AST SpaceMobile collaborates closely with major partners, including AT&T, Verizon, American Tower, and Google, to deploy a global low-Earth-orbit cellular broadband network.

Google also announced a massive investment commitment of $40 billion statewide, as part of its “Investing in America” initiative. The funding will support the development of cloud and artificial intelligence infrastructure, including three new data center campuses in Texas. CEO Sundar Pichai said the investment will create thousands of jobs, expand workforce training, and support energy-affordability programs. Texas Governor Greg Abbott praised the move, calling it the largest investment Google has ever made in any state.

In East Texas, Cancoil USA announced it will establish a new U.S. manufacturing center in Jacksonville, creating 120 jobs and generating more than $28 million in capital investment. The facility will focus on industrial and commercial heat-transfer products. The project is supported by a $648,000 Texas Enterprise Fund grant and a $10,000 Veteran Created Job Bonus. Local leaders celebrated the news, calling it a strong vote of confidence in the region’s workforce and business climate.

Meanwhile, Big Spring earned the designation of a Film Friendly Texas Certified Community from the Texas Film Commission. The city completed the state’s multi-step training process, paving the way for more film and television productions to consider Big Spring’s historic downtown, scenic plains, Hotel Settles, and other unique locations. Officials said the designation builds on more than 50 years of the region serving as a filming destination.
