BJ’s Wholesale ‘Investing Heavily’ in DFW With First Openings Around Corner

Massachusetts-based BJ’s Wholesale Club plans to enter the Texas market with five new warehouse clubs opening in the Dallas–Fort Worth (DFW) area in 2026.

Locations include Forney, southwest Fort Worth, Grand Prairie, Mesquite, and Waxahachie, with the first three stores opening in spring 2026.

BJ’s executives say they are “investing heavily” in the region and are optimistic about succeeding in one of the nation’s fastest-growing metro areas. We’re investing heavily,” said Bill Werner, BJ’s executive vice president of strategy and development, noting strong early engagement and membership sign-ups in the market.

Expansion Driven by Population Growth

President and CEO Bob Eddy highlighted the region’s rapid housing development as a key factor in the company’s market confidence.

“There are more homes being built in DFW than in the entire state of California,” Eddy said.

Each BJ’s club will measure about 107,000 square feet and will offer a range of products, including groceries, electronics, furniture, clothing, pet supplies, toys, jewelry, and sporting goods.

Job Creation and Growth Strategy

Each new warehouse club is expected to create 100 to 150 jobs, generating up to 600 positions across five locations.

The Texas expansion is part of BJ’s broader growth strategy, which includes opening up to 30 new stores between 2025 and 2026.

BJ’s currently operates 263 warehouse clubs across 21 states and serves more than 8 million members. Texas will become the company’s 22nd state.

Competitive Retail Landscape

BJ’s entry into North Texas coincides with rival Costco’s ongoing expansion, which includes new DFW locations.

In the latest fiscal year, BJ’s reported nearly $30 billion in net sales, a 4.6% increase from the previous year, with net income of $578.4 million, reflecting growth in its membership-based retail model.
