Kenvue and J&J Must Register in Texas or Face Business Ban, Judge Rules

A Texas judge has ordered Kenvue Inc., maker of Tylenol, and its former parent company, Johnson & Johnson, to register with the Texas Secretary of State or face being barred from operating in the state, according to reporting by Vlad Schepkov for Investing.com.

State District Judge Gordon Green issued the temporary order on Friday, requiring both companies to comply with Texas’s business registration requirements. A follow-up hearing is scheduled for December 15, at which the court will consider whether additional restrictions should be imposed on their activities in Texas.

The decision stems from one of two lawsuits filed by Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton. One lawsuit, filed last week, alleges that Johnson & Johnson allowed its Texas registration to lapse, while Kenvue never registered in the state at all. Paxton called the judge’s order a “major win,” stating that he would not let large pharmaceutical companies “operate above the law or put their greed ahead of Texans’ well-being.”

In a separate lawsuit filed in October, Paxton accused the companies of concealing the risks of autism and other developmental disorders allegedly linked to Tylenol use during pregnancy. A judge declined last month to immediately halt Kenvue’s marketing of Tylenol as safe for pregnant women.

The ordered registration marks the latest development in an escalating legal battle that could significantly impact the companies’ ability to conduct business in Texas.
