North Carolina-based premium seating company 4Topps is growing rapidly as sports teams, especially in Texas, invest in upgrading stadium experiences and increasing revenue.
Founded in 2011, 4Topps has worked with more than 300 clients, including major Texas universities such as TCU, Texas A&M, the University of Texas, Texas Tech, University of Houston, Rice University, and University of North Texas, as well as professional teams like the Houston Astros and Austin FC.
Executives report surging demand as teams respond to evolving fan expectations and financial pressures.
“Business is booming,” said Deron Nardo, president and chief commercial officer of 4Topps, noting that Texas and nearby states are key growth drivers.
Shift Toward Premium, Social Fan Experiences
The rise in demand is tied to a broader shift in the sports industry. Teams are increasingly prioritizing premium seating and hospitality-driven environments over traditional “seat-focused” stadium layouts.
Rather than filling venues with standard seats, teams are redesigning sections to include:
- Wider, more comfortable seats
- Tables and drink rails
- Social and communal spaces
- Flexible seating that can be moved between venues
Premium seating, previously about 7% of stadium capacity, now accounts for 17% to 20%, highlighting its growing revenue significance.
Post-Pandemic and Generational Changes
The COVID-19 pandemic accelerated stadium design changes, increasing demand for space, comfort, and shared experiences. Younger fans now prefer flexible, social environments over prolonged seating.
Industry experts say the shift represents a broader transformation in sports business strategy.
“The ‘butts-in-seats’ model is a 20th-century approach,” said Bob Heere, University of North Texas sports management professor. “Now, people seek a more hospitality-driven experience.”
Revenue Pressures Driving Innovation
Teams face pressure to create new revenue streams, especially in college athletics, where schools may share up to $20.5 million annually with athletes. Seating and enhanced fan experiences offer opportunities for:
- Higher ticket pricing
- Increased sponsorship and branding
- Expanded hospitality offerings
4Topps integrates branding into seating designs, enabling teams to monetize spaces more effectively.
As teams continue to rethink stadium design, companies like 4Topps are playing an increasingly important role in shaping the future of live sports experiences.
