Round Rock-based Erfurt Blasting Co. Inc. is preparing to establish a major new presence in San Antonio, investing $3.2 million to build its first facility in the city. According to a filing with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation, construction on the project is scheduled to begin on December 8 and is expected to be completed by April 2. The new 4,928-square-foot operations base will be located at 27356 Bulverde Road on the far North Side.
The third-generation company has been a key player in Texas construction for over 50 years, specializing in controlled blasting for rock excavation work essential for utility installation, major site development, and highway construction, as well as explosive demolition of bridges and industrial structures. Founded by Marcus Erfurt, whose experience with explosives began during his service with the Navy Seabees in World War II, the company later gained recognition in the Austin area for its precise blasting work, which was utilized in the development of parking garages and other significant structures.
Company representatives were not immediately available to provide additional comment on the San Antonio expansion.
